Who We Are

There is hope in Jesus!

If you’ve been part of our church for any length of time, you’ve no doubt found that this mantra is built into the DNA of our culture. We are completely convinced that there is reason to get our hopes up because God is perfectly, thoroughly good—and this is the cornerstone of our approach to life, relationships, and ministry.

Our senior leader Josiah Smith felt the call in the spring of 2013 to found a thriving church in the Moxham neighborhood of Johnstown, Pennsylvania. Under the larger umbrella of CityReach Network based in Pittsburgh, ‘CityReach Johnstown’ officially launched on September 20, 2014. After almost three foundational and exciting years, we sensed it was time to step into our next chapter: to become a “sovereign church,” that is, to be a self-governed church, organized under the governance of the Church of God (Cleveland, TN). On August 5, 2017, with the blessing of CityReach Network, CityReach Johnstown officially became New Hope Community Church. (For more about this transition and our name change, please click here.)

The mission of our church has remained the same since Day 1: knowing Jesus and making Him known. This is fleshed out in our three core values: Encountering God, Empowering People, and Engaging the World.

We are a dynamic collective of people who have found hope in Jesus—ranging from rough & tumble handymen to white-haired grandmas, from bearded hipsters to corporate CEOs, from artsy musicians to energetic kids, and everyone in between. Our culture unashamedly revolves around Jesus and His Kingdom, and that translates into vibrant services with passionate teaching and music, small groups designed to connect people to God and to each other, and opportunities to impact our community and the world with the paradigm-shifting message of the Kingdom of God. Because Jesus is our focus, we’ve found that the standard for people in our church and our sphere of influence is hope, life to the max, and breakthrough.

Currently we gather every week on Saturday nights at 6pm, to keep church casual and accessible for people of all walks of life. We believe the church is a family… and we love welcoming people home and inviting them to be part of the family.

If you are new to the Johnstown area, new to church, or just want to swing by, we would love to welcome you home! See you Saturday for the best night of your week!
